Meta $META ( ▲ 1.8% ) is rekindling its complicated relationship with news organizations by signing a fresh wave of AI content licensing deals. After years of whiplash for publishers, Meta is now striking agreements with outlets like USA Today, People, CNN, Fox News, and The Daily Caller to use their reporting inside its AI tools, according to Axios. The move builds on the company’s first AI news deal with Reuters last year.

The partnerships are meant to boost the quality and relevance of Meta’s AI chatbots, which have been rolled out across its apps and rely heavily on real-time information. Meta reportedly plans to keep expanding these agreements to additional news companies as it looks to strengthen the information backbone of its AI features.

For publishers, it marks another turn in Meta’s long cycle of enthusiasm and indifference toward the news business, this time powered by the company’s new AI ambitions.
