Apple $AAPL ( ▲ 0.21% ) is on track to break a 14-year streak and ship more smartphones than Samsung this year, powered by strong demand for the iPhone 17, according to new numbers from CNBC.

Counterpoint Research expects Apple to ship about 243 million devices in 2025, which would give it roughly 19.4 percent of the global market. Samsung is projected to finish close behind with 235 million units shipped, landing at an 18.7 percent share.

A favorable upgrade cycle is helping push Apple ahead, and the company is expected to widen the gap next year with a lower-cost entry-level iPhone that could draw in even more buyers.
